Mariah the Scientist's background is rooted in her early life in Atlanta, her passion for poetry and music from a young age, and her time as a biology student at St. John's University in New York. She dropped out of her pre-med program to pursue music, was discovered by Tory Lanez, and went on to sign with his label and RCA Records in 2019. Her stage name comes directly from her scientific studies, reflecting her analytical approach to her music.
