ABOUT J. PLANK & G. RHODES J. Plank and G. Rhodes share a deep reverence for the stripped-back economy of J.J. Cale - the idea that a groove is most powerful when it breathes. Their debut album, "Slow and Steady," is that philosophy made real: recorded live-toroom at Macy Studios in Rockport, Texas by engineer John Macy, built from two voices, two electric guitars (sometimes slide), and a drum machine. All songs written and performed by Plank and Rhodes, with one three-way co-write with Chris Robeson. Bluesy, groovy, and deeply felt - available for purchase at all shows.
J. Plank (Jeff Plankenhorn) is a BC-based, internationally touring singer-songwriter and master of the lap steel guitar. Known for soulful vocals, dynamic stagecraft, and a sound rooted in blues, roots, and folk, he has spent decades captivating audiences across North America, Europe, and Japan. In 2025, he released The Bend, a stripped-down solo acoustic album recorded on the Texas coast, followed later this year by a high-energy roots rock record with The Southern Aces, cut live in the Netherlands. His career spans collaborations from Ruthie Foster to Ray Wylie Hubbard, headline festival slots, and multiple Austin Music Award nominations - including a win for Best Misc. Instrument for "The Plank," a hybrid lap steel guitar of his own design.
G. Rhodes (Gabriel Rhodes) is a guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, and Grammy-winning producer based in Austin, Texas. He has produced and recorded with Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Billy Joe Shaver, Emmylou Harris, James Burton, Ray Price, Beth Nielsen Chapman, and many others - contributing to more than 17 nationally distributed albums. His work spans film scores (PBS's Writ Writer; Babe: Pig in the City with Bob Ezrin), acclaimed productions like The Beautiful Old (featuring Richard Thompson and Garth Hudson), and an all-star "Stand by Me" alongside Mark Knopfler, Peter Frampton, and Duane Eddy. Solo album Selling Tumbleweeds out August 2025. |
